Description
Dara Emery’s horticultural contributions continue to influence the world of California native plants to this day, some 30 years after his death. Respected and admired by professional colleagues and avid gardeners alike, his reputation as one of California’s preeminent native plant horticulturists is justly deserved. In addition to his plant-related accomplishments, he was known for generously sharing his knowledge and for treating others with kindness. Although plants loomed large, Dara was also a deeply religious, gentle man who led a quiet, spiritual life.
Dara was interviewed for his Oral History in 1984, by Garden Librarian Nancy Hawver, and the illustrated transcript was published in 2023.
